The coffee to serve in your business

by Karyn Lewis

The type of coffee to serve in your business depends on what you want your coffee shop to represent. Some owners want to keep it very simple and only offer premium of the basic regular and decaffeinated forms. Others want to offer a full range of premium options to choose from. Knowing what your options are can help you decide what is best for your business.

Organic blends of coffee have really become popular. These blends are grown without and pesticides or chemicals. It is all natural and in most cases even the fertilizer for the coffee beans to grow are recycled waste. This is an excellent way to show you support efforts to protect the environment. If you haven’t tasted organic coffee, you will find it tastes very good too.

Coffee is also light or dark in color. The darker the color is the stronger the flavor of the coffee is going to be. There are plenty of excellent options that fit into this category as well. Many people find espresso to have too harsh of a taste for them. A better choice may be mocha java. It has a smoother taste that is also very sweet.

The lighter tasting coffees also include Vienna. This is a common favorite among those that just don’t like the bitter taste of a coffee. They want something that is very smooth and creamy. The fact that this type of coffee has very little oil in the beans means it can cover all the options for customers. It also smells very good and most people can’t get enough of it.

You may find offering several gourmet types of coffee gets you a good response from customers. After all, if they are looking for a very simple and plain cup of coffee they can make it at home on their own. Yet specialty blends are something they can get from your coffee shop so it is something new to them.

There are plenty of vendors out there that cater specifically to the needs of coffee shops. They offer plenty of supplies for you to choose from, including types of coffee. You can ask them for samples of various blends that you may be interested in offering. This way you can see for your self what they will taste like.

Many owners of coffee shops find it helps to pay attention to their customers too. If they aren’t happy with a particular type of coffee then stop offering it. You don’t want to have a supply of it on hand for a very long time. Try to promote it with a feature or a sale but if you don’t get regular requests for it then move on to something else. Try to add what they want that you don’t have as well.

Don’t let the cost of coffee items affect your ability to serve the best tasting coffee in your business. You are better off buying the better quality of coffee blends and charging more than selling lower quality items for a lower price. You will find if you give customers what they are looking for in a coffee shop you will be seeing familiar faces several times per week.
